Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students will really benefit and they will improve their reading levels if they have access to snacks, especially those students whose parents are struggling and are in need of extra support. These snacks will make a difference in the classroom! My students come in hungry every single day stating, "I'm hungry. My belly hurts!" and I have nothing to give to them. With no food in their stomachs to begin the morning, sometimes they can't concentrate. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Having several different snacks such as the fruit snacks, Oreos, breakfast bars, and juice boxes will benefit us greatly.

My students really need these snacks since the day is usually long and lunch is later in the day. I am sure that all the stress will cause many students to feel hungry and I want to be able to provide healthy snacks for them. Many parents are struggling financially right now and I am sure although they would love to send their child with food or a healthy snack, that might not be possible for many of them. Please help us.

Most often, our students come to school late way past breakfast time. Most come from shelters all around the city so their bus ride can be up to three hours. Not only do they come in tired but starving. This would go a long way to start their day!
