Help me give my students class sets of a wonderful series for our first unit on identity and fiction writing. This series is reflective of the diversity present at our school and is fun and engaging to kids.

My Project
Our 3rd grade class is doing a cross curricular unit this fall on identity and fiction writing. At the start of the year in our project based learning unit, students will be learning about identity and the parts of their own identity that make them unique. The goal surrounding this unit is to allow students to better identify aspects of their own identity and build an understanding of acceptance of identities different from their own. I am hoping with this series to better align our literacy unit with this same idea of identity work. We are planning a writing unit where students will be their own main character in a story as we explore realistic fiction. My goal is for this writing piece to be a celebration of the identities each student holds. This series was chosen because of its representation of diverse characters, it’s fun and engaging storyline and how it places a focus on identity. My hope is that this series will provide students more mirrors to see themselves in our curriculum and windows to learn about others different from themselves as we have a large Native population at our school.
