My students at Clark Middle school are amazing young people so eager to explore new ideas and the willingness to participate in projects promoting critical thinking and problem solving while engaged in the wonders of a STEM/Makerspace environment.
My students are English Learners who come from an area of low income and transcience. Many of these young people have learning disabilities and special needs. My desire is to choose activities that will engage my students while also creating social interaction that will enhance their English speaking abilities while making them more comfortable in a peer setting. All students, no matter their income deserve to engage and participate in a number of activites and projects that will allow their learning to be speak, read, and write the English language to be fun.
I have no budget for STEM/Makerspace activities and of course, the majority of my students have no monies of their own. My students NEED to have available to them a variety of outlets to aid them in improving their language abilities. A STEM/Makerspace is the ideal venue to aid in improving not only writing skills, but also speaking skills through social engagement in activiites and projects.
My goal is to develop better speakers, listeners, writers, and most especially readers engaged in life long learning, while at the same time, have fun exploring a STEMMakerspace venue.
