My Students
My students are amazing. I know, you probably hear this a lot but seriously, they are phenomenal. They attend a Title I school in the Bronx where they each receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Our students often have the odds stacked against them but they do not let this define them.
Our students are creative, innovative and full of life, but this is only part of what makes them so phenomenal.
Our kids are continually defying odds. We have the unique ability of being a public school with a mission to help the world around us in regards to wildlife conservation. Even in an urban setting our students are constantly coming up with ideas to not only help get the word out about species in peril but also to help in their own neighborhoods.
My Project
My students are requesting relaxing music, a portable speaker, and yoga and Zumba DVD's. The students believe that yoga, and Zumba would be excellent after school activity choices as they are low impact activities that anyone could try. This would open up the participation to not only ALL of the interested students but also the staff!
While most of my students are active they would like to find additional ways to channel their energy.
With the DVD's and addition music we will be able to actively do something together while also relaxing our minds. This is a crucial activity for my students as their minds are constantly racing with issues they are facing in their neighborhoods and at home.
In requesting the yoga mats we will have a soft place to workout and the cleaning cloths will help up make sure the mats remain clean. The external DVD drive will let up project our videos from a computer onto a big screen so that everyone can see.
