These students have grit. These students have drive. They want to be the best they can while supporting each other. When you have students who want to work hard, you have to make sure you do everything you can to put them in the best situation to succeed.
Changing the culture of a program is the hardest part but once you get the students invested and feel that they are part of something greater than themselves, they stay.
Materials shouldn't be the reason students don't have a chance.
My Project
My students have received practice pads and stands for beginner percussion class. Now they need quality sticks so they can learn good technique!
In this class, I've already taught 45 students how to read rhythms and how to execute classical snare drum rudiments.
Because this class is a semester long, it'll be able to give more students music than before. I'll have 45-50 students each semester that will be able to become percussionists.
Having enough equipment is always a struggle for our district. The sticks the students use currently are good enough but I'd like my students to have the best equipment to ensure their success.
