Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a public Title I school in South Carolina. They are a great group of girls and boys that simply love coming to school and adore learning. My students have a passion for discovering new things and come to school daily hungry for more.

Our classroom is blessed with many diverse students, some who have learning disabilities, speak a foreign language and even a few who are newcomers to the United States.

It is our diverse population that makes us special and allows us to grow.

My Project

These ten wonderful picture books will bring to life a very difficult, complex, and emotional topic, The Civil Rights Movement. The ins and outs of this movement are a major part of our fifth grade social studies state standards, but the content is often one that is difficult for students to grasp.

These students are young enough to not know what segregation is, but still live in a world where discrimination and hatred exist.

These books will help me to teach this topic to my students in a way that they can relate to. These books could ultimately change the way my students view the world.
