My Students

I love my students so I want to make a difference in their lives. When a student comes through my door, they become one of my kids. I want to push them to their full potential and watch them succeed. I grew up in the neighborhood where I now teach. I want to be that role model for them. My students come from the inner city and are economically disadvantaged; however, I teach them to have that grit and follow their dreams with endless possibilities.

What makes my classroom so special is they get to take journeys to different places, meet heroes and historical people, and gain so much knowledge through literature.

Initially, reading is usually their last choice as a favorite subject. However, by the end of the semester, the students have a change of heart and fall in love with reading. I always tell my students that “Readers are leaders and reading is the foundation of academic success.”

My Project

The most powerful tool that we have is knowledge! Giving that tool to our students gives them exposure to civics, voting rights, our government, and who our presidents were. This knowledge is important so they can take civic action.

Let’s not fail our students obtaining or receiving their information only from news networks or social media but from authentic civics literature.

Having this type of exposure will gear their conversations with their family members about current events and our presidential election occurring in November 2020. This exposure to these books not only will influence this election but many future elections in our government.
