Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach physical education grades K-5. I have seen an improvement from a fitness standpoint but they still lack some coordination and eye/hand coordination. I believe that adding circus skills will improve their hand/eye coordination and their reflexes.
These students are from a low income area and don't get as many opportunities as other children their age.
I believe that this unique opportunity would enhance their skills; not only physically but behavioral as well. My student's are seeking to be encouraged and enjoy showing off the new things they have learned. This equipment would allow my student's to work on the skills needed to accomplish a task they otherwise would think impossible.
My Project
Circus skills will help the student's develop their concentration and hand eye coordination, while using both sides of their brains. The items requested are juggling scarves and spinning plates. The Learning or teaching circus skills in an educational setting can have many benefits in terms of educational outcomes. For example, learning the skills themselves, how the circus activity affects the students and how it enables them to subsequently acquire knowledge. Learning circus skills is an excellent, fun, class activity offering many links to National Curriculum areas such as physical education, performing arts, science, art, music, literacy and numeracy. These item will be used in lessons to help students develop patience and persistence, provides a model for cooperative learning, and reminds us that challenges can be fun! It also stimulates imagination and higher order problem solving and improves the abilities to focus and concentrate
Circus skills would improve our physical education program and our student's lives by introducing a new skill they have never learned before.
Our student's come from a low income community and would not have the money to participate in these activities outside of our school. It will also help with the student's follow step by step instructions to achieve a goal, stay on task, manage their muscles to act appropriately, and set goals.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
