My Students

It's a law of nature: all students, especially STEAM students (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), love to assemble well-made materials that can be manipulated in a dozen different directions. Behold: the Circuits, Oh, Snap project!

This engineering project aims to place essential and simple Snap Circuit kits into the young, articulate hands of our creatively-advanced students.

Why choose these beginners kits? Because they, like our talented students, illuminate the beginning stages of electronic circuits technology. Our young students are just getting to know the principles of electrical engineering; these kits are the quintessential starting point.

Our science students love to do it themselves; as a teacher, I can do the building first, but really, they prefer to make the first mistakes. This way, students learn, from direct experience. Even for our kindergarten students' small fingers, these beautifully-made circuitry pieces are easily snapped on, and off. I must confess: my science students are plucky, wily, determined, resourceful, opinionated, and brimming with enthusiasm. Whew!

Do I think this circuitry project is vital for our STEAM students in grades 1 through 4? You bet your capacitors I do!

My Project

Luckily for me, I recently purchased one of these beginner's Snap Circuit kits online. Choosing the first of twenty experiments listed in the instruction manual (LED light with rotating fan), I was instantly taken with the educational quality of both the kit and its manufacturer.

For a modest price, this circuitry kit is a real showstopper!

This kit includes two different switches (slide and push), an audio circuit, two LED light components, and a variable speed fan circuit. The makers of these wonderful parts planned well: for example, one of the light components may be inverted to produce both red and yellow light.

Best of all, this project allows for up to seven laboratory team tables to explore at the same time. No students need to wait to explore, or to delay producing stunning results from their own engineering work!
