Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My class consists of students that are multi-level learners that love hands-on and engaging projects. They are always eager to try new things that will allow them to grow both personally and academically as well as challenge them to be creative. My school is located in a rural and high-poverty community. My school is also a Title I school where all of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch. A few of my students live with foster parents, and many of my other students live in low-income apartments. But just like any other students, these students have the determination to want to learn 21st-century skills that will prepare them for the future.

Just as students learn how to write an essay or solve a math problem, it’s important for every 21st-century student to have a chance to learn how the internet works or design an app.

Learning the basics in Computer Science will help my students be prepared for high-skilled computing opportunity. Each student in my classroom enjoys learning. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and collaboration with plugged and unplugged activities.

My Project

These materials and supplies that I am requesting will be used to introduce my students to the basic properties of electronics and programming. They will be used to teach the fundamentals behind circuitry and how circuits are used in all of the technological devices we use today. By giving my students an opportunity to actually see how a basic computer function through these simple circuit boards will empower my students to be creative, problem solvers, and interested in programming. This Circuit Playground board will be the next step toward a perfect introduction to what I am trying to implement in my Computer Science class. The circuit board is packed with features that make it brilliant for the first step towards an active hands-on programming environment such as writing code for microprocessors (mini-computers than can control hardware components such as LEDs, sensors, motors, and buzzers).

Gone are the days where students are just playing on electronic devices, but are actually creating the next apps or games.

Your donations to this project will help to improve my students' understanding and interest in coding. Therefore, by providing these circuit boards, my students will begin to see themselves as coders instead of gamers. These materials will be used to help my students to be 21st-century learners. As the teacher, I am eager to implement this learning opportunity in my class. Therefore, I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thanks!
