This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are lively and energetic. They also all have autism, which means they struggle to communicate at times. Most of them are using communication books or iPads with communication apps to tell us their needs or use very short sentences. They are all sensory-oriented students, but all in different ways. Some of my students like to play with fidget toys and others like to jump around or snuggle in a bunch of pillows.
My students are younger, usually between first and third grade, and they certainly are full of energy!
They always keep me on my toes! I am never bored with them around.
My Project
We love circle time in this classroom. It's where we learn about our English and Spanish sight word of the week. It's also where we go over the alphabet, and counting/numbers. And we can't forget about the calendar and storytime!
Currently, the students are sitting at a tiny portable table that I brought from home, which is not nearly big enough.
I am hoping to get the students a nice half circle table, so they are able to layout materials without bumping into their fellow students.
We have also started to incorporate monthly themes this year. I am hoping to purchase a theme packet from Teachers Pay Teachers for the entire school year, to make prep for myself and my staff easier and quicker. The bundle has enough themed activities for the entire year!
