Cinderella Around the Word: A Cultural Unit Study

My students need a variety of Cinderella tales from all around the world to explore different cultures.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Lawson's classroom raised $338

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Hispanic Heritage month again? What about a Black History project? I am constantly trying to teach my students to be accepting and appreciative of cultural differences and diversity. I want them to be knowledgeable about the world around them and capable of positively interacting with others.

I teach three classes of a combination of 4th and 5th grade students at a Title I low income community school in Florida.

95% or more of the student body receive free or reduced lunch on a daily basis. My classes are comprised of English Language Learners, students with disabilities, and children reading well below grade level. Many of my students have never been outside of the community in which they live and have very limited cultural and worldly knowledge.

My Project

Instead of the traditional Black History and Hispanic Heritage project, imagine the endless possibilities if students could research different cultures around the world by reading a variety of Cinderella stories written based on cultures from around the world. What a better way to learn about different cultures then by comparing different aspects of a traditional story passed down by generations. Not only will this study enlighten students about other cultures, but it will also bring about a community of acceptance and appreciation for individual differences.

With your donation my students will be able to learn about cultures from around the world and also become accepting and appreciative of diversity.

Each child is an individual and brings to the class a unique perspective and I want my students to learn to appreciate the cultural differences among themselves and among those around them.
