Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been in a history class in which you visualize being there? You can visualize being in a place and time because your teacher made history come to life! Engaging classes in history are only given by few memorable teachers.

My students are smart, driven, and very verbal.

They are 100% Hispanic. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. They are exposed to violence, socioeconomic limitations, and like lack of food. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. In my classroom, they get to dream and the sky is the limit. They've planned future traveling plans, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They would thrive as enthusiastic learners if they are provided with the memories that will last a lifetime. They will experience and recollect their memories in a whole new way.

My Project

Cicero Kids is a comprehensible social studies curriculum that will allow my students to integrate social studies curriculum with the language arts curriculum. I feel it is very important to use the two together to have an integrated curriculum. Many of the standards that are required to teach will relate to the activities in the Cicero Kids lessons. I will use the Cicero Kids Social Studies as an instant learning centers during our literacy work station time. My students will learn about geography in our world at their own pace. This will individualize their learning. The project is so important because the students will continue to use these skills every single day for the rest of their lives. They will think like historians, use map skills, character building skills, geography and more, to connect their knowledge to our world today, past, and future.

I have high expectations, I know that my students can one day be a big asset to our society. They can learn to be part of history and the world by providing services for their communities one day. We need them to learn to love history, civics, and our society. Please help me fund this project so that my students can think like historians and to broaden their social studies knowledge.
