Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 29 amazing 4th grade students in my class who come to school eager to learn and challenge their thinking every day. Our school consists of children from a variety of different countries and cultures. I have students from India, Mexico, Vietnam, Ethiopia, El Salvador and Honduras. Many of our students and parents are newcomers to America and are eager to learn English. My students end up being teachers for their parents and are often translating and teaching them what they are learning at school. Our students are happy and working hard to embrace their new culture as well as maintain their own identities and cultures. Our school consists of 80% of our students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch. However, we want to show them that poverty is not a deterrent to their learning capabilities.
My Project
Students need consistent access to Chromebooks to work on personalized learning. The Chromebooks will allow us to have up-to-date technology. Currently we have access to 4 desktops that still have access to floppy discs. When they decide not to work it takes away learning opportunities from my students.
The Chromebooks relieve stress for the students by allowing them to know that they will have access to consistent working Chromebooks.
It allows me to have equity for my students. The Chromebooks will allow me to differentiate the learning for my classroom.
This donation also sends a message to my students that people in the world care about their learning and progress. Students need regular access to web-based Literacy, Typing, Math, STEM and Discovery Education resources. Ultimately the Chromebooks will not only help this year's group of students but future students as well.
