Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach second grade and have 30 students in my class. I work in an urban school system in Illinois. The majority of my students speak English as a Second Language. I also have a few diverse learners in my class. All of my students are minorities and come from low-income families. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school.
Our school is suffering from severe budget cuts, limiting many academic opportunities and services offered at my school.
My students are hardworking, full of energy, and curious about the world around them.
My Project
Do you remember using a computer when you were in elementary school? I remember learning how to type a document or navigate a webpage. The technological skills learned during elementary school has greatly benefitted me throughout my life. My current students have limited access to technology.
I teach second grade in an urban school system in Illinois, and the majority of my students speak English as a Second Language, and come from low-income facilities.
I also have a few diverse learners in my class. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Our school suffers from severe budget cuts, limiting many academic programs and resources offered at my school. My students are hardworking, full of energy, and curious about the world around them.
Most of my students do not have computers or other technological devices in their homes, limiting their opportunities to interact with technology. Therefore, I would like to enhance my classroom with two chromebooks, providing my students with more technological experiences. Also chromebooks can also be used as an intervention tool, allowing my students to use educational programs to improve their reading, writing, or math skills. Computers provide uninterrupted, individualized instruction with immediate feedback.
The use of computers would help my students learn universal technological skills (ex- typing, navigating a website, and clicking on icons) that will better prepare them for their future schooling career and a global society.
