This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

George Washington Carver said, "Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom." By providing students access to the limitless resources on the Internet, we will be unlocking this golden door to the future generation.

This is a great group of high school students.

While many of these students have never traveled outside of Arizona before, they have very high ambitions. Students talk about college, scholarships, and future careers ranging from lawyers and neurologists to social workers and law enforcement officers. Our school is in a rapidly growing area of Arizona that maintains a 'small town' feel. The district's enrollment is approximately 4,400 students and May 2012, represented the district's first ever high school graduation. The area has been hit hard by the current economy, as there is little industry in the district's boundaries. The school's vision states that we are, 'a community of empowered learners for the 21st century.' To keep focused on that vision of empowered learners, we need to ensure students have consistent access to 21st century technology.

My Project

A class set of Chromebooks will allow our high schoolers endless opportunities. Math classes can utilize short video clips to improve understanding and science classes can take part in virtual labs. History classes can analyze primary sources and English classes will be able to utilize digital media to discuss and research common themes in literature. Students are very expressive and creative when given the opportunity and the possibilities are endless. Whether it be creating a Power Point presentation to present in a child development class, collaborating with other students on a virtual dissection in a biology class, or exchanging emails with a Spanish pen pal from another state, computers will enable our students access to the best learning opportunities available.

Every student is an individual and computers will allow students to not only learn in their own way but also to have more flexibility in terms of self-expression.

We don't know who will be the next world leader or Nobel Prize winner. Without access to the proper resources and opportunities, however, who is to say what discoveries will never be made? Our students have high aspirations for their futures, and we cannot deny them a chance to achieve their goals and dreams.
