Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology is very important in order to compete and survive in life. Many of my students do not have access or don't know what to do with our growing technology. We need current technology to be able to use daily, in school and/or at their homes.
I teach 4th grade in a public school.
My students attend a Kindergarten - 8th grade school. Our student body is 99% Latino. Our school is located in a low socio-economic, bilingual community. We are a Title I school that serves one of the poorest areas in the Los Angeles County. Most of these students are English language learners, many of which also come from disadvantaged homes. My students are 4th graders who need up to date technology.
My Project
My students have to share a mobile cart of about 25, sometimes not working, 7 year old (outdated) laptops with 16 other 3rd-5th grade classrooms. Our district purchased 3 Ipad carts for our k-8th grade school, approximately 1,100 students. These carts are primarily shared so that students take district and state Common Core assessments throughout the school year.
The donations for this project will improve my classroom by allowing my students to be exposed to updated technology that will be in their own classroom and not have to share.
Students will have it at their own fingertips. Having at least two Chromebooks, students will be able to have a rotation system where they can use on a daily basis instead of about once a week for just an hour.
