My Students
I teach in an urban area. All my students receive free lunches. They often lack the basic needs that we take for granted. They come to school hungry and unprepared to learn. Their parents can not provide them with the basic tools they need to succeed in school. Many of my students, who are only 6 years old, have already attended two or three schools.
However, they come to school curious, wanting to learn and explore, in a place that is safe and caring.
I do this by creating an environment that fosters their natural love for learning, a place where they can feel secure and cared about.
My Project
My students are all reading and writing below grade level. Some have special needs, others began school late, and still others just have not had the home support they need to succeed in school.
I want each of my students to make progress at his or her own pace, and technology, like the Chromebooks I requested, help them to do this.
There are wonderful apps available that allow me to differentiate my instruction. This allows each of my students to celebrate the new skills they master.
But with budget cuts and increased class size, my 30 students do not get the opportunity to take advantage of these wonderful resources!
