"We're preparing (students) for a world that's rapidly changing. The jobs they're going to have don't even exist yet." - Billie McConnell director of the K-12 Digital Learning Institute
It is critical that we embed 21st Century technology and problem solving into our daily curriculum!
My second grade classroom consists of 22 diverse learners in a school of over 535 students in grades K-6.
Although we are a small city, we are the most diverse district in the nation and our students bring a wealth of abilities, interests, backgrounds, and talents.
My Project
While I teach my guided groups, I envision my students working on Chromebooks in a variety of ways. Students may be working on Lexia as a reading intervention, Spelling City for spelling practice, or XtraMath to improve their basic math skills. Even more than that, I want to teach my students to use Google Apps. Last year, I taught my second graders how to create documents in Google Apps and this year I want to go a step further and use Google Apps for collaborative projects like research and presentations for reports. Chromebooks in the classroom will, rather than a lab, allow my students to do these things and more.
Putting technology in the hands of kids is critical in a 21st century classroom and embedding and integrating these skills as a part of our daily learning is real life in the 21st century. Can you help me provide my students with a 21st century education by helping to fund our class with two Chromebooks?
Chromebooks in the classroom will provide students with access 21st century tools.
Students will use them for a multitude of enrichment and remediation tasks that will better prepare for the future.
