it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am currently a learning support teacher at a public school in the Hunting Park neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA. As a learning support teacher I work with fifth grade students with varying special needs. Each of these students has an Individualized Education Program to help guide their instruction through differentiation, modifications, and accommodations in the classroom. Generally, the students on my caseload perform two to three grades below their grade level expectancy. Many of my students present difficulties with based phonics, decoding and comprehension. They also have difficulties in math including basic operation skills. These students greatly benefit from computer based intervention programs, which will provide them with a personalized learning experience tailored to their individual needs.
My Project
The use of Chromebook computers will provide my students with the opportunity to participate in computer-based reading and math interventions. Computer-based intervention programs have proven to be an effective tool in enhancing a variety of skills including phonics, decoding, comprehension and fluency. There are also a profusion number of advantages with mathematics interventions such as mastering basic operations and number sense. These sort of intervention programs provide individualized instruction so that the student is learning at their own pace, while being challenged to meet their particular needs. Chromebook computers will also provide my students the opportunity to participate in a Blended Learning model, which includes whole group instruction, small group and computer-based. The use of Chromebooks will truly provide a differentiated instruction!
