My students need a classroom set of Chromebooks because we have some wonderful interactive lessons and research projects in our science curriculum. But, we only have one classroom set of Chromebooks to share with 20 classes!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have an amazing science curriculum this year: energy, force and motion, waves, Earth in space, the solar system, evolution, and bioengineering. There's almost always some sort of fun activity we are getting into each day, based on what our plan for the week is.
I have an incredible group of 8th grade scientists!
Every day, my students come in excited about what we are going to be doing in class. They are enthusiastic, responsible, and engaged in our lessons and deserve the best.
My Project
Because of our budget and funding, we don't have much access to 1-1 devices. Our building has three computer labs and two Chromebook carts to service 600+ students. All are first come, first serve, and anyone who has online testing gets priority.
By having a set of Chromebooks in the classroom, it will enable students to partner up to do more of the interactive science demonstrations and research required for many of our lessons.
Currently, we are not able to do a lot of these because of the availability of the labs and Chromebook carts.
These lessons will be much more meaningful when students are able to interact with them one on one, as opposed to me doing it on the board and having them watch. We can also use Google classroom more effectively, as I try to be as paperless as possible.
