This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are curious, bright and the best people you will meet. The majority think in two languages, looks for ways to create stories, think reading is their super power, and need devices to be successful with remote learning. We are a small, beautiful elementary school in the South Bronx. Our namesake was an impressionist from PR, and for the last two years, we enriched our school partnering with visiting artists, creating sculptures and collages, and using recycled materials. We do all this from a zip code that was hit hard by COVID 19. Like all NYC public schools we open for business with students on September 21, using a blended approach to learning. Students will be 100% or 50% remote depending on the choice their parents made. All will be remote at points, but all do not have devices. We need a minimum of 30 more devices to ensure that all of our students can begin the year with tools that they need.
My Project
Our community needs help providing all of our students with technology so that they can work remotely during the COVID crisis. Our children deserve and need a chance to be successful with remote learning. It can only happen if each child has a working device. Working devices will enable our students to connect with their teachers and each other in Google meets, and during live instruction. They will provide access to learning apps. They will help students access library books, learn English as a second language, create recordings, and access platforms and the world in a way that will. not be possible without them.
Our community, like the rest of the world is changed by COVID.
Our zip code was in the top ten most impacted by the disease during the height of the pandemic in NYC. There have been significant losses. School, whether remotely or in person provides students with normalcy. We provide a foundation for life and we need support for remote learning to uplift our students.
