This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in an inner city school in Los Angeles California where 100% students at the school receive free lunch. My students come from very low-income families where technology is not easily available. Despite the many obstacles they face, my students are eager to learn. They enjoy coming to school every day because it is their safe haven where everyone can be themselves. My English Language Learners are motivated by the integration of technology I provide in their daily lessons.
My Project
The Chromebooks I have requested will be used as a much needed technology center. Many of my students do not have access to technology and by bringing technology into the classroom, they will be able gain 21 st century skills. The Chromebooks will engage the students in skills such as phonics, phonemic awareness and reading. The students will be able to access sites such as Raz Kids to practice reading skill otherwise not received at home. My students do not have the technology skills yet, but I know that these Chromebooks can definitely get them one step closer!
