This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title I school in Staten Island, NY. This year I have an ICT class. Which means half of my class has IEPs. In addition many of my students are also English Language Learners. My students are hard workers who truly push themselves to do their very best. However, often they don't have all the supplies and materials they need to succeed in school. Due to budget cuts, my school is not always able to provide classrooms with extras, but I want my students to have it all.

My Project

Besides the one laptop, which is for the Smart Board, my classroom only has one other computer in the room for 30 students. This computer is quite old at this point and moves very slow. I have access to a laptop cart of 15 laptops that I share with the other classes on the floor. I'm sure you can guess the amount of time each student gets to use technology (not much at all).

My students love using technology and have recently become extremely engaged in a website called FirstinMath which is helping students become Algebra ready for middle and high school.

Adding more computers to the classroom will enable more students time to practice and do more math work online. They would also be able to have more independent time to strengthen their math knowledge, through websites, and games.

These Chromebooks are a small step towards my goal to put technology in the hands of every student in my room. You can help us reach this technology goal. Thank you so much for your generosity!
