This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a visual and performing arts high school where many of our students come from low income families.
What I love about my students is that they are incredibly creative as young artists and also apply themselves to their academic studies.
They are special because, even though they have disabilities they routinely work hard to overcome the difficulties they face. A recent success in the classroom happened when a student with attention and anxiety challenges was able to use technology to help him focus and successfully organize information when working on a lengthy project and research paper.
My Project
We are requesting two Chromebooks. My students need to access the internet quickly in order to keep up with all the work from eight classes. They have old laptops that are outdated and slow. Students need new technology that will help them maximize their time to be successful.
Many teachers use Google Classroom to assign homework so students will be able to use the Chromebook to complete their assignments efficiently with new fast technology.
My Learning Center class students each have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from grades 9th - 12th and many may not have access to computer or internet. The Learning Center is the place at school where they have time to complete their assignments that require a computer.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
