Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the southwestern part of Houston and serves kids from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. We are a neighborhood school and a community in the truest sense of the word. We work very closely with our kids and their families to put them on the path to success. We are a diverse place in many ways and I am very fortunate to teach such a wonderful group of kids.
I have been incredibly fortunate to get support for projects in the past and the resources your generosity has purchased has helped my students use their imagination and go everywhere from Mount Olympus to Manassas, Virginia
My Project
This past year in history we used a lot of different multimedia resources such as books, graphic novels, and videos. The things I have received from your donations in the past have continued to make a positive difference in class, but I am reaching out with an ambitious ask because I have seen the immense impact of a highly coveted but sporadically available resource: the laptop cart. My students need reliable computers in history.
Adding a class set of Chromebooks to take advantage of a rich set of school district and free online resources will have an enormously positive effect on my classroom.
I have used many different resources over the past school year that were very effective; websites like Quizizz and Quizlet help students review vocabulary and new concepts in an exciting way that allows them to have fun and compete against one another. I have had students complete historical simulations that allow them to choose from a set of options that famous figures had to grapple with. I even used the all time great educational resource we all love, the Oregon Trail (which holds up really well and the kids still like! 8-bit games still have a surprising resonance). We have also used computers for projects such as our school's history fair.
My students respond to technology in a really positive way. A donation can help me improve their technological literacy and historical knowledge.
