My Students
Our middle school has approximately 800 students. We are a diverse community school in a large school district. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds but all have a willingness to learn. Many of our teachers are innovators in their fields and are trying to accommodate the needs of all of our students.
My students are energetic and love to learn.
They are curious about the world around them. I would love to make my classroom more engaging to fit the needs of all of my students.
My Project
My students learn about the economy throughout the year as we study U.S. History. Financial literacy is an important part of my curriculum as we talk about different times of depression and recession and economics of the time periods. Within those topics, the students will often work with technology to learn about the financial state of our country. One example is when they look at the U.S. debt clock online and determine the meaning of vocabulary words like GDP, gross, revenue, and assets. Students then work together to discuss reasons why the debt is so high and continuing to climbing and to come up with ways to help reduce the national debt
We are requesting new Chromebooks to replace some of the older outdated or broken Chromebooks that we currently have.
Having enough Chromebooks for all students will help them to engage the curriculum more fully as we study different areas of financial literacy and U.S. History. The Chromebooks are also used to collaborate and engage in the material as they complete assignments. This is something that the students really enjoy and has helped to improve engagement in my class.
