This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students come from a low-income community, and the majority has to face challenging situations in their everyday lives. Regardless of this, they are eager and ready to learn. Families in our community are primarily Spanish speaking and most of our students are English language learners. Our school is an inclusive place where students feel welcomed and respected individuals. My students are 4th grade diverse learners with learning and/or behavior difficulties.
My students’ love for learning inspires me to create the best classroom environment for them.
They come to school with high expectations and I want to have the resources they need to meet their individual needs and interests.
My Project
Incorporating Chromebooks in my students' curriculum will allow them to develop their independence and computer skills. Currently, in the classroom, we are practicing reading, writing, math skills in both languages. Implementing Chromebooks will be beneficial towards practicing typing and research skills through online programs and applications. These devices allow for a creative way to learn academic skills in a more accessible and exciting way!
Though the use of Chromebooks is excellent for independent learning and skill reinforcement in all areas, many of my students do not have access to computers outside of school.
Many of my students come from a low-income neighborhood, where having a computer is rarely available. This is a major hindrance to academic success. Many of my students come from a low-income neighborhood, where having a computer is rarely available. This is a major set back for their academic success. Furthermore, having access to Chromebooks will allow English language learners to have access to content in their home language, do research and have better opportunities to become independent learners.
