This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all teenagers who have recently immigrated to the United States. They arrive at the International Academy eager to fulfill their American Dream. Many students leave their home countries in search of a better life. The majority of my students have been in the United States for 4 years or less. Most of my students are from Central and South America, but also hail from Asian and African countries.
My students are full of energy and are ready to fulfill their dreams here in the United States.
My students are some of the most hardworking teenagers I have ever met. They are faced with the challenge of not only learning content but also a new language. My students face obstacles every day, but always find a way to persevere. They inspire me on a daily basis.
My Project
Chromebooks are a great way to allow students to learn at their own pace. They allow teachers to develop lessons that address the most important modalities of learning.
Chromebooks will give my students the opportunity to develop their English language skills.
Students will be able to practice their writing, reading, speaking and listening skills in English. They also use the Chromebooks to translate and define new words. Developing their English language skills is imperative to their success outside of school.
Seeing as many of my students do not have access to computers at home, Chromebooks in the classroom gives students the chance to develop basic technical skills that they will need in the outside world.
Chromebooks help students learn not only English but also content. Students will also be able to access more historical sources with access to Chromebooks. Chromebooks give students the opportunity to research and grapple with primary and secondary sources.
