"Helping improve our world and community" is our classroom's year-long theme. My students are constantly working on ways to enhance their understanding that everyone has differences to be celebrated and we must work together to make the world a better place.
My 7th graders are high energy students with out-of-this-world creativity and desire to help others.
They fully engage in rigorous group and individual projects through reading, writing, and researching about different topics and cultures. Combining creativity, language arts, and social studies, my students are able to think deeply about the world as a whole, and not think of each subject matter in isolation.
My Project
Chromebooks in our classroom are essential for student learning, engagement and productivity. Our school does not have enough Chromebooks for teachers to use everyday and it is a toss-up to whether our class is able to use the Chromebooks in our lessons on any given day. My students are in need of Chromebooks constantly because we are always using Google Docs, Google Slides, typing essays, researching, and running Computer Science lessons. When my students are working on projects and we cannot get the computers that day or week, we must put our projects on hold and work on another lesson using paper and pencil.
We will be starting our student-driven community service projects this winter.
Students will each research problems our community and world have and find solutions. They will be developing their solutions into a year-long project in which they actually go out into their community and solve a community problem. In order to do this, my students need Chromebooks in our classroom. If my students are able to be researching, typing, and working on Chromebooks daily, they will not only accomplish their community project goals, but improve the technology skills.
Chromebooks in our classroom will provide my students with the ease of knowing they will always have access to their research. Students will no longer have to shuffle Chrome Carts around the school in hopes we can use a set of Chromebooks for that day. Knowing that there are a set of easily accessible computers in our classroom will allow for my students to have more continuity, focus, and learning. We would very much appreciate your support. Thank you!
