Today's learners come from a highly technical world into traditional paper/pencil classrooms. It's difficult to keep students engaged and excited about learning without bridging the gap between their world and adults who are not technological natives.
My students come from low to middle class families.
Several students come from homes that are highly-based in technology and others have no Internet access outside of school. We find this gap to be widening in today's economy; either students have lots of technology tools and devices or none.
Our school is a K-6th grade elementary school in a low to middle class neighborhood. We have a diverse student population. Our teachers are highly motivated individuals who are always interested in meeting the current educational needs of our changing student population.
My Project
The addition of a Chromebooks netbook lab at our elementary school will open many doors for our students. We will have access to the most current online technology such as xtramath, SuccessNet, Lead21 reading curriculum, online presentation software like SlideRocket and Prezi, and Google Docs.
These methods of teaching and learning will increase student engagement and interest, thus, increasing student achievement by providing student learners the most up and coming methods of learning.
This Chromebooks project will provide educational benefits far outreaching any current technology we have in the classroom because of the constant access to current methods of teaching and learning and the availability of a netbook to every student in my classroom at any time throughout the school day.
