This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Class V04 is composed of 12 incredible young men and women with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other specific learning disabilities. The typical student in my class reads below a second grade level, and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense.
Despite the challenges my scholars face because of their disabilities, their resilience and commitment to learning inspires me to be a better teacher every day.
Like many self-contained 12:1:1 teachers, I deliver rigorous and Common Core-aligned instruction in ELA and Math, along with Science, Social Studies, Vocational Education, and Art. My goal is to foster a sense of self-sufficiency in my students through functional academics, ultimately creating life-long learners with an intrinsic motivation to succeed.
My Project
The addition of Chromebooks to my classroom would be monumental! As a 12:1:1 teacher in a high school setting, I serve students who are most likely to be able to transition into the workforce after completing their vocational training. Presenting academic content through Chromebooks would be a highly effective way to deliver Common Core-aligned instruction in all of the subject areas I teach, along with familiarizing students with the (almost always) digital job application process.
Incorporating technology into my classroom would help me bridge the gap between vocational education and real-life application for my exceptional students.
Using Chromebooks for academic and vocational subjects would give my students the opportunity to create more meaningful and functional connections between the skills they are learning and how they can apply these skills in the real world.
