Chromebooks for Advanced Placement World History Growth!
My students need technology to better support our Advanced placement curriculum. We would like to move into more project based learning and research but are lacking in classroom technology to support student growth.
My students put a smile on my face everyday. They are so smart and intuitive. We consistently work together to create a classroom that is bright, vibrant and full of knowledge. We are a charter school located in the center of Harlem. My kids come from a diverse background across the five boroughs. We are a diverse community of learners that grow and work with each other, questioning curriculum, the validity of historical sources and creating strong theses that can back up our claims.
I truly believe I have the best students in the world!
I enjoy coming to work everyday and seeing their happy faces. I also know that It is not easy getting to school every day for my students. Some travel three to four hour commutes just to get to our school that gives them what they need and deserve. Right outside our window showcases poverty, drug use and crime. This depicts all of the things my students want to rise above through education. Together we can achieve anything!
My Project
In our AP World History class, we have been working on various projects that require research and shared documents. However, we are currently using my personal technology in a class of twenty-five which includes two tablets, an iPad, my laptop and even my personal cell phone to complete our technology-based classroom. The students never complain and are happy to share but it is obvious that they deserve and need more than what I can personally supply. The students create intricate projects like autopsy of empires, recreating dynasties and creating lessons that they teach to the their classmates. We would love to get to a point in which we could write essays and grade them on google docs for quick and effective feedback. With Chrome books I could do flipped classroom in which students watch the lessons and videos at home and come in ready to discuss. The possibilities are endless!
Our inner city students deserve equitable and modern educational technology that will foster their growth and benefit their future!.
