Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

For most of my students, school offers structure, safety, food, and other things many take for granted. As a Title 1 school (95% of our students receive free or reduced-cost lunch) with an English Language Learner population of 95% in a neighborhood that sees crime, these needs are more important than ever. In addition to basic needs, school should offer engaging and meaningful opportunities in learning. Finding the funds and time to gather supplies to create these opportunities can be consuming, but these students deserve it.

Despite the disadvantages these students are dealt, they are some of the brightest, kindest, and hard-working kids around.

Despite learning disabilities, socioeconomic backgrounds, and language barriers, they work hard to find their academic goals and find success. But these students do need help. With the achievement gap looming over them, any tool or project to keep these students interested and motivated is crucial.

My Project

In a world that is moving towards a more digital, it is important for students to become familiar, comfortable, and even experts on technology and research. With resources such as Teaching Tolerance and other sites that celebrate diversity, students will find an engaging way to access these learning opportunities. Additionally, laptops will give students access to learning how to research and educate themselves efficiently and effectively. They will learn to seek out correct and meaning information.

Yes, books are a way to explore outside the classroom, but technology is the doorway to full-on immersion!

With Chromebooks, students will gain the opportunities to not only explore the world outside their classroom, but also interact with it! With these laptops, I hope students can explore new subjects like film editing, coding, and other technology-based skills and careers.
