I have the privilege of teaching students who come from all corners of the earth. We have over 30 languages spoken at our elementary school and a large number of our students are refugees from around the world. These amazing kids have overcome so many obstacles to be seated in our classrooms and I feel completely honored to work with them.
These incredible refugee students come to class each day with wide-eyed curiosity and a desire to learn.
They are excited to learn the language as well as how to read, write, and do math. For many of our students, this is their first experience ever attending school.
My Project
ESL students need extra supports to access and comprehend grade level content. These supports include pictures, videos, interactive activities, and repeated opportunities to practice. Chromebooks not only grant students access to all these resources, they give students opportunities to become digitally literate in the 21st century! Technology is inherently engaging to my students, and they will need to develop fluent computer skills in order to be successful in today's world.
I will use Chromebooks in small group instruction to enhance my lessons and make content more comprehensible for my ESL students.
Students will use Chromebooks to engage in interactive educational games, take virtual tours, watch videos that reinforce academic content, and develop research skills all while increasing their understanding and usage of the English language! Chromebooks will help my students become successful in school and beyond.
