Help me give my students technology in our classroom! I'd love for my special needs students to have at their fingertips the technology necessary to work on 21st century skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a special education teacher for high schoolers, I work with my students on life, job, and communication skills, plus, all of the academic subjects. These energetic and hardworking young adults are engaged in a variety of activities designed for them to grow, learn, create, express, explore and collaborate. They currently have to travel around the building in order to retrieve Chromebooks which are integral for so much of their learning and communication.
Having Chromebooks at their fingertips will allow them more time for meaningful school activities.
My main objective for these wonderful kids is for them to be contributing citizens in our community. Providing them with access to technology is a key to the achievement of this objective.
My Project
On a day to day basis, my room is a VERY busy space. Each of my 40 students has individual goals which they strive to achieve through hard work. They log into my digital classroom and find a variety of tailored learning experiences. They cover all subjects that provide reading, writing, playing and viewing lessons. Online access engages various learning styles including visual, auditory, and hands on.
The ability to utilize technology provided a recent breakthrough for a limited-verbal student; easy access at school will further his progress.
This young man with autism started using a device at home to communicate in ways he hadn't previously. With Chromebooks at school my hope is that he'll be able to write to me the same way he is using his home device! In addition to the academic benefits, Chromebooks will be used as communication devices for my limited-verbal high schoolers.
Online experiences engage students, invigorate their lives, and build their 21st century skills. Having the addition of these Chromebooks will provide opportunities for them from the moment they walk into class until it's time to go home!
