My students need an ASUS Chromebook to work independently on their Math practice.

My Students
During the school day, we have time embedded into the schedule for some students to focus on missing Mathematics skills. The students who come to my room enjoy working on Math while in small groups. As some students focus on specific skills that will help them improve overall 6th grade standards, they use Khan Academy on a chromebook. Other students work on a program named Aleks, which is part of their textbook. We also received a grant to provide student licenses so they can use Reflex Math.
What makes these three small groups and individual learning possible is the Chromebooks.
Students are motivated to improve their individual skills on a computer each day because they see their growth immediately on the screen. They earn points and badges on Khan. They earn knowledge trophies on Aleks and they earn tokens for their avatar on Reflex.
The Chromebooks make a difference by allowing students to review critical skills they may have missed in an earlier grade level, or move forward onto new skills not yet described in 6th grade. Chromebooks support students in moving at their own pace. We need more of these Chromebooks in our classroom.
My Project
During our Guided Study time, students work in small groups in our Math classroom. Each small group is working on the Math skills that they need to practice in order to show "mastery" at their level. While some students need math fact fluency, others focus on solving word problems, and still others are uncovering new skills by applying their understanding in real-life experiences.
In each of these small groups, students have access to Chromebooks so they can move at their own pace.
Providing individualized education within a large classroom setting is so much better when technology is available and usable. While we do have some older desktops, they do not always work. We have access to Chromebooks, but we need to share those with three other classrooms.
We are building our own bank of Chromebooks in our classroom so that we always have access to technology. Already, our community has helped to fund three Chromebooks, and we would like to add more. In this way, students will always have Chromebooks in their classroom, even when other classrooms are using the shared resources.
