Chrome Reality

My students need two Asus Chromebook laptop computers to assist in everyday learning in the classroom.

My Students

These sixth-graders are amazing! They love to learn and are more excited to work on Algebra, Geometry, and Data when they are connected to real-life concepts. This year already, they have created incredible projects which illustrate where the "best buy" was for their favorite products when learning about rates and ratios. Most were presented on posters because not everyone had access to prepare their work on a Chromebook. They have also created cartoons to show the percent of a number. But the next (and best) project is still ahead of us!

When learning about Algebra, students will be developing their own real-life word problem.

As the numbers and variables change in the student's equations, so will the output. Those changes will be added to a table and built into a graph online. This year, the students want to work on Chromebooks to electronically show their graphs. Can you help them?

My Project

These requested Asus Chromebooks will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. As we build our own set of Chromebooks in the math class, students will be able to work in a math center to complete their IB projects. Additionally, students can research, take virtual field-trips, practice math facts online, utilize their online textbook, practice study skills on Khan Academy, and complete online assignments.

This grant will help students make connections between their mathematical learning, math practices, and real-life experiences.

Currently, I have access to thirty Chromebooks, however, I share them with three other teachers. Our district is already allowing students to bring their own devices and has provided the bandwidth to support all of the personal technology. However, not everyone has a phone, tablet, or Chromebook to work upon during class.
