This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a variety of academic backgrounds. Approximately 70% of our entire school population are receiving free or reduced lunch. Most of our students, again about 70% are also second language students. The predominant language is Spanish. My students have many challenges in their lives.
Regardless of their circumstances, they enter my class every day with an eagerness to learn that I want to foster.
We begin each class reflecting on something happening globally in science. After discussing these issues it makes me want to bring more of that into my classroom.
My Project
My students will use their Chrome Books to study water temperature, clarity, salinity and water levels globally. They will be working on projects in the lab that require they get real time water sample data. Chrome Books will be a valuable tool used for documenting their data and writing up their lab reports. They will have access to programs utilizing spreadsheets for their data analysis and more.
The Chrome Books would allow my students to access the internet and acquire real time data from local water monitoring stations.
The exciting part for them is that they will be able to access data from around the world.
