This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school each day eager to learn with excitement in their eyes. The majority of my students come from low-income income households, so for many students, school is the only safe, warm, and welcoming consistency in their lives. I consider my classroom to be a dependable place of comfort and love that my students need in order to prosper not only now, but also later on in life.
Teaching is more than my job; enriching the lives of my students is my duty, and each day I strive to make every one of my students feel at home, cared for, and comfortable when they are at school.
My Project
Chromebooks would immensely enrich my students' current learning experience. Fifth graders are at a critical stage in education where they need to develop specific technology skills so that they can continue to experience growth and academic success as they enter middle school and higher grades, when technological proficiency is critical. Currently, I have 3 desktop computers in my classroom for students to use throughout the day on a rotation basis. Many of my students do not have access to computers at home, so school is the only opportunity they have to develop these necessary life skills.
Chromebooks would help provide my students with the opportunity to improve their typing fluency, research and online literacy skills, and complete projects they can be proud of, such as published writing pieces and PowerPoint presentations.
Additionally, there is an abundance of math and reading programs online that motivate and engage my students in learning, and having a larger number of students able to access these programs and websites on a regular basis would help engage students in the classroom.
