This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Winter break is exciting for some students, but only for some. Some students go home and look forward to Santa leaving gifts and spending time with family, but not every child has that to look forward to. Winter break for some means not coming to school, which is their safe space for two weeks, and not hearing the words " I love you" every single day. Or let's read a book together.

It is hard to explain that to an autistic student who sometimes takes a little longer to understand why we don't have gifts and why Santa is not coming.

I've chosen a book they will enjoy reading and Play-Doh so they can do some hands-on activities. My students love to read, and that can be a way to create a family activity where they can read the book to their family. Also, sensory activity will help them stay calm while exercising at home.

I want my students to feel loved and valued as they go home for two weeks and be able to take home something special. They will be immensely thankful and will appreciate your gifts.
