My Project

I love teaching third grade, especially through the month of December. I love to add to enrich my students’ lives with learning about different cultures and countries.

Each December, I do a Christmas Around the World unit.

We spend four weeks "traveling" around the world with our suitcases (grocery bags) and passports. We read books from other countries and watch videos that teach us about how other countries celebrate this beloved holiday. We make crafts centered around a focal point of a country or culture's traditions.

I also love to be able to eat different foods or drinks that come from that country as well. When we learn about Mexico, we enjoy Mexican candy. When we learn about Germany, we enjoy gingerbread cookies, and the students get to choose a cookie cutter to take home. When we learn about America and Canada traditions, we sip on hot chocolate with candy canes. I would love to also give my students a shocking when we learn about the three wise men leaving gifts in stockings in another country.

My students have loved this year after year and they get so excited to take home their suitcases full of their passport, postcards and crafts.
