Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our fourth grade class wants to do an Author Study on Chris Van Allsburg. Unfortunately our school does not have all of the titles and they are not always available. Allsburg is a wonderful writer and teaches the children to look at the world and situations through the eyes of others. Fourth Grade is a critical year and our state tests are very important. The students are used to reading mostly nonfiction articles, biographies and charts. Chris Van Allsburg is a nice change of pace for these students. Many of the students are familiar with the story "The Polar Express", mostly because of the movie. The students I teach don't have the opportunity to go to the book store and explore other titles. Most of them only go to the library on a field trip from school. My class and I would be so appreciative if this proposal was funded. It would give the students a new outlook on reading.
