My Project
In Mr. C's English class at KMS, daily choice reading is a tradition. Every day to start our time together, we turn the lights low, we play quiet, calming music, and for 10 minutes, we center ourselves for a session of learning, all the while forming positive associations with reading.
My students have come to love this part of their day, and it's on me to keep our library fresh by adding new texts.
To that end, I humbly ask your assistance in making these additions. The texts I've selected are based on conversations with students who had requests in mind, including everything from a broader graphic novel selection, middle-grade meet-cutes like The Davenports (which doubles as a history lesson!), and scary science fiction like the Overthrow series.
I believe an integral piece in addressing young people's literacy needs is meeting readers where the are with texts that explore their passions and reflect their lived experiences. Thank you for helping me provide more of these to the students in my classroom.
