This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title l campus with many of the students on free and reduced-price lunches and they do not have access to technology once they leave the school building. My students are eight and nine years old who are eager and excited learners. They are creative and thrive on gaining their own knowledge through student-driven research.

We are a STEAM academy this year which has excited my students and exposed them to new ways of learning in the classroom.

My Project

The book Wonder has been widely publicized, motivating students and teachers read it and work for kindness in the classroom. This book is about a middle school boy with a physical deformity who constantly struggles to fit in. I would like to use this book in my classroom as a book study to help promote kindness.

As they are reading Wonder, students will have to opportunity to increase their reading comprehension and make connections on the importance of kindness in our world.

Our library has very few copies of this book and students are often placed on a waiting list. Having a class set of Wonder for my students to read will give us an opportunity to #CHOOSE KIND.
