Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in a city where crime rates are high, and there is a 98% poverty rate. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with the same creative and meaningful learning experiences that other students are able to have.

Although I may not be able to control their home lives, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day.

By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My students, although only three and four years-old, are hard workers, and they deserve to come to school and feel safe and loved, and I'm happy to be the one who is able to give them that.

My Project

My students will use these materials during our STEAM exploration time. This is a time when the students are able to explore STEAM stations. The 'S' stands for science, the 'T' stands for technology, the 'E' for engineering, 'A' for art, and the 'M' for math. At this time, students are given the freedom to work collaboratively on projects of their choice within those categories. The STEAM activities provides materials that guide students through problem-solving tasks naturally through play and exploration. I am requesting blueprint activity and ABC magnetic tiles, and ABC nail builders to integrate science and literacy. I am also requesting steam builders which allow students to use hands-on materials to create and design. 4-5 students work together at a center so I am hoping to use extra materials such as nails and boards to supplement the games requested.

These skills are critical to producing quality future workers in the 21st century.

It is also a time for students to use and build upon their own unique skills that may otherwise be overlooked.
