I teach at a Title I elementary school. My students are diverse, enthusiastic, and brilliant! This year I get to work with second-grade students and help them navigate school after a global pandemic. It is a big responsibility.
Coming into 2nd grade will be a very large task for these 7-year-olds.
My students are in need of friends and social-emotional growth. My students come from a wide variety of cultures and languages. We have over 41 languages spoken in our school! I teach many English Language Learners. In fact, half my class is usually learning English as a second language. My goal is to help students succeed in school and develop a love for learning. This can only be done through effective and focused instruction. I want to make coming back to school a pleasurable experience in which students believe they are rockstars. I want them to make friends and still stay safe. I want to lessen their anxiety. And I want our time in class to be meaningful, successful, and empowering.
My Project
Coming back to school this fall will be unlike anything we have experienced in public education. We have spent a year and a half finding alternative ways to learn. Students will be coming into the classroom is very different places on their learning journey. We need ESGI to get us on track and moving forward!
ESGI is a software program that keeps students, families, and teachers aware of their progress through teacher-designed assessments that drive instruction.
By checking student progress often via ESGI, teachers will have accurate and meaningful data that will help students catch up faster, give them responsibility for student learning, and keep families in the know. Can we live without ESGI this year? I don't think so!
