When you enter our pre-k classroom you will be met with eager and energetic students who are ready to learn. I have the pleasure of teaching twenty inquisitive three and four year olds who make coming to work everyday a joy. They do this by expressing their unique personalities through active play and interactions with their peers. Our classroom is filled with noise, the noise of children playing with language, singing, reading, and leading conversations with one another. Our classroom is filled with materials, materials that can be manipulated, explored, snuggled or played with, and shared. Most importantly, our classroom is filled with love, love for learning and love for each other. I feel honored that I get to be a part of their growth and education. I strive to make a difference in their lives and unlock their door to learning and academic success.
Incorporating play into the preschool curriculum is essential for children to grow and develop. Providing toys of high interest that children can play with and learn from, makes education more enjoyable. The best toys engage a child's senses, spark their imaginations, and encourage them to interact with others. What better toy to do that, than a toy train set!
A toy train set has many educational benefits.
It can help children improve their social interactions as they play side by side with their peers. You can use a toy train set to model turn taking and introduce rich vocabulary as you talk about the different parts of the train. You can encourage counting skills as you count the number of track pieces and introduce concepts such as: over or under, straight or curved, long or short, and first or last. Many students with special needs are particularly drawn to trains. These students love watching the wheels spin and categorizing the trains into different models, types, sizes, or colors. I hope to use my students' passion and interest in trains to engage with them, help them learn valuable skills, promote language in play, and expand their imaginative play skills.
