Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach grades 6-8 at a very low income school. A lot of the students receive free lunch and do not even have basic supplies and winter coats to say the least. I have five sections of general music during the day and then 2-3 days before school I teach 6-8 choir and show choir. There is a lot of interest in music among the students, but I do not have enough supplies to meet all of their individual needs. Especially for the choir. The singers have to perform in the gym, and there is not a good way for all of them to stand where they can all be seen! I enjoy providing positive clubs for the students to be in so they are not on the streets after school or home alone waiting for their parent's to get home.
My choir students work for 3-4 months preparing concerts for their friends and family. There are 2 concerts performed each semester with 3-4 songs per concert. I currently have about 40-50 singers, which is a huge improvement from our choir of 12-15 last year. There are so many singers and so little space! I would love to have every student visible to the audience, but with performances on the gym floor this is nearly impossible. Choral risers would be an amazing solution to this issue and would make students, audience members, and performers a lot happier!
I would love to have choral risers for the students to stand on. They practice ALL year long for 2 performances, and I would love for them ALL to be seen in their moment to shine!
You would make every child feel like the deserve to be seen AND heard at the choral concert. You would also make parent's feel really proud and excited that they can see their child singing and doing something positive. Please help make many wishes come true.
