Choices in American History

Help me give my students the Choices Program Curriculum Units on American History.

My Project

Through collaboration, document analysis, writing, discussions, debates, and role plays, the Choices Program offers, my students have been better able to consider point of view in history and make connections between the past and today. They can walk away from my classroom having learned how to become engaged participants and will have had the ability to engage in academic discourse.

With these additional units on topics relating to US History, I can provide more opportunities for my students to study history as it relates to current events, so that my students continue to become historians themselves by developing the skills historians use on a daily basis.

With this project, I am requesting additional Choices Program units that focus on American History. For instance, the unit, "Racial Slavery in the Americas: Resistance, Freedom, and Legacies" will allow my students to study the legacy of slavery within the Americas. The unit, "The Cuban Missile Crisis: Considering Its Place in Cold War History" will also help students understand the long lasting implications of the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Cold War. These units help my students take a more active and engaged role in our classroom because they are studying primary and secondary source documents, reading and analyzing case studies and making crucial decisions about what key players should do regarding certain historical events.
